Baldor Specialty Foods (BSF), located at 155 Food Center Drive in Hunts Point, Bronx, NY, outgrew their existing 192,933sf facility and retained CCWa to design a new 131,500 sf expansion to be connected to the existing building. This expansion was able to be developed because of the ability of CCWa to present the project to NYCEDC as part of their Request for Proposal to lease the Halleck Industrial Parcel at the referenced project site. BSF was awarded the 9.54-acre site and CCWa began developing the design concept and construction documents. The expansion has allowed BSF to increase their distribution facility by 68 loading docks, adding another 56,000 sf of high-bay refrigerated storage, and 25,000sf of office space accessed from a new two-story entrance with elevator.
This project needed to be constructed while BSF was still in operation, resulting in a phased construction design. The phased construction allowed the 24 docks that were on the west side of the existing warehouse to be removed, and a temporary dock to be built outside the construction area, so that BSF could remain in operation while the north-side of the new expansion was constructed. Upon the completion and sign-off of the Phase 1 north side expansion, and 32 new loading docks, the remaining existing docks and temporary dock were dismantled to allow Phase 2 to be completed. Currently Phase 2 is under construction with an expected completion of 4th quarter 2018.
